Acreage changes the wiring
On a Corrales lot the electrical work doesn’t stop at the house. There’s the casita, the workshop, the barn and the well, lights along a long driveway, and outlets out by the arena. Those are longer runs than a city lot, and they have to be sized for distance so the far end doesn’t see low voltage.
Adobe, pueblo-style and additions
Plenty of Corrales homes are adobe or pueblo-style with thick walls and flat roofs, and many have grown with additions over the years. Thick walls make new wiring harder to fish, which is exactly where planning, surface solutions and wireless switches earn their keep.
Outdoors, under the cottonwoods
Outdoor lighting, weatherproof outlets with in-use covers and GFCI protection matter more out here. So does the surge protection that monsoon lightning makes worthwhile.
Corrales questions
Asked in Corrales.
Does PCM Electrical serve Corrales?
PCM Electrical serves Albuquerque and the surrounding area, including the village of Corrales between the North Valley and Rio Rancho. Call (505) 463-1276.
Why do the lights dim in my barn or casita when something starts up?
On long runs, voltage drop and undersized wire are common causes; a loose connection is another. It needs to be measured, not guessed. An electrician can test the voltage under load and tell you whether the wire size, a connection or the load itself is the problem.
Can you add switches in an adobe house without tearing up the walls?
Often. Thick adobe walls make fishing new wire difficult, so options include surface raceway, routing through the ceiling or attic space, or wireless switches that control a fixture without a new switch leg. PCM will tell you which fits the room.
